The Town School Building Committee has undertaken a Feasibility Study to examine the facilities needs at the Maynard High School and study possible solutions. Specifically, it is tasked with finding the “preferred solution” for the community to pursue. The process is determined by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). In order to be eligible for state reimbursement, communities must work with the MSBA and follow their process.

Ultimately, the MSBA will decide what option is selected, with input from the Town School Building Committee and our consultants.

 

Regionalization

One of the alternatives explored by the is regionalizing with another district.  This process involved meeting with the following six communities: 

  • Hudson School District

  • Concord-Carlisle Regional School District

  • Lincoln-Sudbury Regional School District

  • Nashoba Regional School District

  • Acton-Boxborough Regional School District

  • Littleton School District

Stakeholders from the Town and the School Department were involved. Specifically, each meeting was attended by the Town Administrator, a Selectman, a School Committee member and the other district’s counterparts.  Demographics, facility needs and the pros and cons of regionalization were discussed with each district.  Each of the six districts determined it was not in their interest to merge with the Maynard.

Options Studied

With the help of our consultants, a number of grade configurations were studied, as well as determining whether a new facility should be built or the existing facility should be renovated.  Currently, pre-K thorough 3rd grade are in Green Meadow, grades 4 - 8 are in Folwer, and MHS contains grades 9-12.  The following options (among others) were studied:

  • 9-12 HS / 4-8 Fowler / PK-3 Green Meadow

  • 8-12 HS / 3-7 Fowler / PK-2 Green Meadow

  • 7-12 HS / 3-6 Fowler / PK-2 Green Meadow

  • 8-12 HS / 2-7 Fowler / PK-1 Green Meadow

  • 6-12 Fowler / PK-5 Green Meadow

  • 5-12 Fowler / PK-4 Green Meadow

  • 7-12 HS / PK-6 Fowler  

The MSBA is currently examining these options.  The MSBA has the final word in what option will be persued, which will be decided at their next meeting in January.
