80% Say Yes for New High School
Congratulations! With your help and support, 80% of those voting yesterday voted YES for MHS!
According to the Maynard Town Clerk Michelle Sokolowski, voters Tuesday approved spending $700,000 to plan and design a new high school. 1668 residents voted for planning and designing a new high school. 428 voted against.
Thanks to all who voted, emailed and talked to their friends and neighbors, attended and organized educational coffees, put up lawn signs, distributed flyers, made phone calls, wrote letters to the editor, donated money, and held signs in the pouring rain! The results reaffirm that this is an important investment for our students and our community.
We are not done yet, however. The next step is for the architects to come up with a plan and for Maynard to approve the final plan – both at a Fall, 2010 town meeting and town wide vote following success at the Fall town meeting. We will do our best to keep you updated along the way.
Next Meeting April 1st
Congrats to all who helped generate such a strong margin of support at the polls for the High School. While the campaign is still fresh in our minds we’d like to take some time and review what we (MMF) have done up until now, what worked what didn’t, and what we want to do leading into and through the fall. Our next meeting with be Thursday April 1st at 7:30 – with the location and details to be sent later in the week as we are still working on the location.
We would expect we need at least 1.5-2 hours. Part of success was a result of the input – large and small from so many on our community. We understand if you can’t make it – never one date that works for all – but we hope many of you can.
Thanks – Deirdre and Mary
